have just returned on tfrom a cruise on the voyager of the seas . we booked for a party of six 13 months ago as my mother is disabled and in a wheelchair i tried to make sure everything went smoothly. we had booked 2 days in barcelona before the cruise . we were collected at the airport and were meant to be collected by a handy van which takes a wheelchair . we were met by a rep who escorted us to a mini bus , i had taken a portable step with us as i have experienced problems before, my mother managed to get in the vehicle but on exit at the hotel fel backwards and if i hadnt have been there the accident could have been far worse. we arrived at the diagonal hotel on barcelona where we had booked 2 double rooms and twin disabled only to be told the disabled room was never booked [so much for booking early!] my mother had to manage till the next day before a disabled room was available 12 hours before it was time to leave to board the ship . couldnt shower for 28 hours. got straight onto my travel agent who got in touch with royal caribbean who said it was never booked . managed to arrange disabled transport to the ship which did go smoothly. checking in and boarding theship was very easy and not time consuming. when we boarded i went straight to the guest relations desk to find out why i had encountered the problems in barcelona again i was told that it was my travel agents fault as it was never booked.and if i wanted a disabled transfer on the 15th of november back to the airport it was going to cost 190 euros ! again got on to the travel agent and this was eventually sorted by wed 12th . the cabins were comfortable and very clean. the food was ok but not as good as p&o cruises. entertainment was very good and the ice show was excellent. one very important thing if you have a wheelchair you can wait along time at the lifts especially when going to dinner.

It seems very clear to me as if your travel agent never booked the special transfers or the hotel room. RCI have a specialist department that deals with this. Another reason to always book direct (and get it in writing). Booking a disabled room on the ship does NOT automatically mean that you get disabled facilities in the hotel and in the transfers - they all have to be requested separately, as you found out unfortunately. Glad it all worked out inthe end. May this work as a warning to other passengers with special needs...

thankyou for your comments just to let you know i was present in the travel agents when the travel rep phoned royal caribbean and booked the thransfers and the disabled room so was no reason to believe that this hadnt been done . it seems that the uk branch were aware but the information was never passed on to miami where all bookings go
