We boarded the ship in Valparaiso which is a couple of hours drive outside from Santiago. We enjoyed two days in this nice city and stayed in the Regal Pacific hotel which offered a good location and very good service. On embarkation day we booked a private tour to take us to the port and we included stops in the Casablanca wine district, Vina de Mar and Valparaiso. Very enjoyable.
The embarkation was very quick and we were looking forward to a fantastic two week holiday in South America. The ship is good, service is fine but you have to accept that this is an old ship and does not have all of the facilities you would find on the newer ships.
Our trip included the Lake District of Chile Puerto Montt which was fantastic - a couple of days scenic Cruising through the fjords and lakes and a stop in Punta Arenas. Lots of tours on offer from scenic bus rides of the country side, activity based trips and penguin watching. The next day we sailed through the Beagle Channel and saw lots of Glaciers. Fantastic.
In our opinion the best port of call was Ushuai. The National Park is great and you are really at the end of the world. The sailing around Cape Horn was very smooth too. Next port Puerto Madryn in Argentina. Small place for a gentle look around and getting ready for Buenos Aires which was excellent. We booked the 4 hours tour which was very good and we had spare time to discover the city on our own. The ship did not leave till 10pm which was good. Our final stop was Rio and again it was interesting. I would suggest to book a tour for safety reasons. Great views from all the major stops.
We disembarkt in Santos and made our way to the airport.
The food and service was good. The entertainment was enjoyable and we could recommand this ship. But we would also like to point out that RCCL needs to refurbish certain parts of the ship asap. Especially around the Pool area and in the back of the ship.
