Just returned from a golfing holiday in Florida with a 3 night Bahamas cruise on Sovereign tagged on the end.
I sailed on Sovereign 20 years ago when she was the newest, largest ship in the world - how ships have grown since then! She is still special in my mind, she was the very first of the 'mega' ships even though you would now call her 'midsized'. She brought so many new designs into cruising that all the cruise lines have copied, you could call her the 'blue print' for our modern day cruising.
To be honest I was not expecting her to be in great shape after 20 years of use and due to be moved out of the fleet later in the year, but how wrong I was! She looked very modern after a recent refit, to slight sign of wear and tear was a bit of rust in our bathroom.
The boarding process was very quick and professional, we arrived at the port at 12.30pm and we were on board eating lunch by 1pm.
All of the crew love this ship and work together as an excellent group with superb team spirit.
We ate both in the 'Windjammer' and the Dining room and found it very hard to fault the food, only one meal from our group on the whole cruise didn't meet our standards.
The 2nd day we docked in Nassau at 11am, we didn't take a trip just walked off the ship and shopped for a while, then found a few local bars.
The 3rd day was spent at Coco Cay, RCI's private island, we had a blast there. BBQ's had been set up serving food all day, the bar waiters from the ship had set up bars under straw huts and everybody was in party spirit with the sun baking down.
Debarking was very quick on the final morning, we were back in Orlando playing Golf by 10.50am before our flight home on the same night.
