My husband and I have been with Royal Caribbean twice, once in 2006 and once in 2007. We had never been on a cruise before then so we didn't know what to expect but they far outreached our expectations. The boarding proccess is quick and simple, but reccommend you get a safe deposit box as soon as you board as they get taken up quickly. The cruise line offer a "soft drink package" which we found to be a very good idea, upon boarding (and at any point during your cruise), you can pay one single payment and get a drink of your choice i.e. Coca-Cola at any time for the duration of the cruise without paying any addition charges. We found travelling at night as we slept very good as we had the days to enjoy lovely islands such as Nassau and CocoCay in the Bahamas. The tender ships to and from the ship were a first for us but the service was impecable, they were lined up like taxis and we didn't have to wait for long to enjoy the beautiful places.
CocoCay is an island specially reserved for Royal Caribbean and is the most idilic and beautiful place you can imagine.
On both our cruises we had sea-view cabins which were spacious and well laid out. Our room attendent visited several times a day and made sure we wanted for nothing, every morning after returning from breakfast the bed had been made up and towels had been replaced and the room had been cleaned, in the evenings the bed got turned down ready to get straight into. We have had absolutely no problems with the food and the service, we ate in The Windjammer Cafe most often with its 24hr buffet we didn't have to rush for anyone and the entire cruise was at a leisurely pace that we set for ourself.
Everynight the entertainment was different and there was something for everyone, and during the day there are many pools and even a rock climbing wall to make the most of. The highlight of our entertainment was the "Belly flop contest" in which several large gentlemen risked their dignity in the hope of being named Belly Flop Champion and the compure running it made it very entertaining.

All in all, very enjoyable and relaxing and we have booked two more cruises for 2008 and are even taking more members of the family to enjoy it with us.

Having been on many cruises on many different cruise lines, I believe the Halls would be quite surprised at the even higher level of service and better food on other ships...specifically those of Cunard, Celebrity, and Princess, and P & O (all of whom are superior to RCI). We have done two transatlantic crossings this past year, one on Celebrity Galaxy and one on RCI Navigator of the Seas. The Galaxy had notably better food and bar service. The entertainent, however, was excellent on both ships. Princess' overall package of food, service, and entertainment at a reasonable price is one of the best bargains on the sea. I encourage the Halls to experiment a bit and try another cruise line...they might end up as devoted to cruising as my wife and I
