As a family we are fairly new to cruising having only been on 4 altogether, but Navigator of the Seas was our biggest ship so far ,we departed southampton on tues 28th August heading for scandinavia and the baltics for a 12 night cruise .On embarkation we looked in awe at the impressive atrium and were welcomed by the friendliest staff ever.We had paid extra to have an inside cabin at the top of the ship which proved not terribly successful unknown to us it was directly under the swimming pool and sounded like the titanic sinking every night when the water form the pool was drained/recirculated .Also it was unnecessary to be near the top as the lifts will take you in a whisker anywhere you want to go ,most action especially in bad weather happens on deck 5 the royal promenade. We did complain (nicely) and luckily was moved to a family stateroom for the remaining half of our voyage,i found the pursers staff very helpful and no matter wat time of day or night they were always couteous and helpful.food in the main restaurant proved to be much nicer than the windjammer which seemed like a glorified wimpy bar with quality not much better. We ate at johnny rockets a couple of nights which was a great hit,all served for a small cover charge by singing and dancing waiters. Now anybody with a teenager will tell you if they are happy you are happy!!! my son was 14 at the date of travel and had a ball did not want to get off at ports of call he was having a blast at the kids club we hardly saw him we knew he was still on board by the charges that appeared on my stateroom bill.!!If you are travelling with children/teens you cannot beat royal caribbean for their clubs and exclusive zones where parents are forbidden to enter.Entertainment was varied with different shows and tribute bands each night although we did not get to the disco. The casino was a big draw for my husband but alas he didnt break the bank .The cruise itenary was changed as we got on board to find that we could not go into finland as they were dredging, its just a shame that them weather was so bad windy and cold, the pool area was lovely but never went in at all because it was freezing;although used the indoor mineral jacuzzi near the spa ,good fitness programme to work off excess calories and tried pilates for the first time !!!we had a brilliant time and are looking forward to Independence of the seas on their short break in may 2009.
