This was our first cruise and after this experience we would happily book up for our next one!

we decided to start with a short 4 night cruise as part of a 3 week holiday to Florida in order to try it out and see if it was something we would like without committing to a longer trip.

those travelling were myself, my husband and our 2 teenage daughters (aged 16 & 14)

We sailed from Miami and getting on board was very easy with the porters taking care of our luggage. the only problem we encounted was that for some reason there was a form we had to fill in that hadnt been including with our paperwork and they had to go find some for us but it was resolved very quickly and professionally.

Once on board at first I thought a cruise had been a huge mistake as everything seemed to be very chaotic with people everywhere and it took a long time for our luggage to arrive (we got on board around 2pm and didnt get our bags till almost 9pm) but after we had had a bit of time to get over the outside heat and chaos and went on deck to view the ship leaving port it got much better as people then started to move off to different parts of the ship.

To begin with the size of our cabins was a shock, we had 2 inside cabins and i couldnt believe how small they were but to be honest after that initial feeling they worked well for us, the beds were very comfortable and the cabin steward did a wonderful job of keeping them looking great, and really we were only in them to sleep.

We found Dining on the ship was a pleasure most of the time, we had most breakfasts and lunches in the Windjammer and also ate dinner there on 2 nights, using the dining room on the other 2 nights. We all found the selection of food available to be really good - wide choice, fresh, well cooked and well presented.. to be honest I personally preferred the windjammer to the dining room as I had fish both nights in the dining room and it wasnt all that good, whereas the catfish and salmon I had in the windjammer was excellent! We found the normal staff in both places really great, both very professional and friendly. Although I wasnt impressed with the Head waiter in the diningroom, as he was quite sarcastic with my younger daughter when she needed something on the menu explained.

We visited all the the bars onboard and found them very good, excellent service combined with great cocktails, you cant really go wrong with that.. we ordered most drinks from the pool bars and found the staff there extremely friendly and helpful (especially one waiter from Jamaica who actually went to another bar to get me a particular cocktail that they couldnt make for me at the pool bar). We particularly loved the almosphere and the view in the Viking Crown Lounge.

the posts of call we had were CocoCay, Nassau and Key West and we really enjoyed all of them, although the water slide booked for my daughters on CocoCay was cancelled due to it needing repairs which was disappointing for them and we had to speak to Guest Relations 3 times before the credit for this was added to our seapass acount as they said it would be.

We actually had a number of problems with guest relations over the course of the cruise when we had to talk to them about problems we had. On all occasions we felt we got a "couldnt care less" attitude and were really unhappy with them, and these included a serious complaint of having to report another passenger who had attempted to buy alcohol for my 14 year old daughter, even after she had told him she was only 14 and didnt want it! the other times were when a beach towel went missing from our cabin, when we didnt get a copy of the cruise compass for the next day, when a DVD we had bought as part of an excursion booked with them didnt work and on the last day when we were not given a bill for our seapass account and had to go and ask for one.. all in all we found the staff at the guest relations and the excursions desks to be very unproffessional and extremely unhelpful! and on top of that the queues at these decks were always huge!

We only went to one show in the theatre on board and really enjoyed this, the performers really put everything into it and you can see how professional they are.

I was concerned before going about feeling like I was "trapped" on a ship but it didnt feel like that at all we all enjoyed being on the ship so much that on 2 of the shore days we were back on the ship by lunchtime and didnt get off again. My daughters enjoyed the freedom of being able to do different things than we were doing and being able to eat when they wanted to (they actually enjoyed the cruise more than they had enjoyed the themeparks and want to go on just the cruise next time)
