We are now awaiting our third cruise - this time on Celebrity Century in October around the med, cant wait
We first tried a cruise holiday in 2004 on board Sunbird now known as Thomson Destiny - we had an absolutely brilliant time, we were well look after by all of the staff. Although the ship at that time was old and a bit tatty in places it was very clean and I believe has now had a total refit by Thomsons. The highlight of my trip was sitting on deck eating my breakfast as we sailed into Valetta - this is something trhat will stay with me for the rest of my life. The food in general was quite basic but good and cabins were cleaned at least twice a day. At the time I thought this was the best holiday I had ever been on. The following year we had a land based holiday in Spain and I must say I was very bored and longed to be back on a cruise liner.
In 2006 we sailed on Legend of Seas with Royal Caribbean - what a difference, this was pure luxury. The service was brilliant and staff could not do enough for us, many of them remembering our names and our likes and dislikes after a couple of days. The food was brilliant, my husband practically lived on the Aberdeen Angus Steak that was cooked to perfection every time. We ate in both the main restaurant and the self service restaurants, food good in both. The entertainment was varied and we didnt miss a single show, enjoying them all. We had an inside cabin which was spacious enough for our needs, we spent very little time in there only to sleep and shower and change. It was equipped with a TV ,mini bar and safe (for which there was no extra charge - a definite plus) and also toiletries supplied. We did not go on any of the on board excursions as felt that they were quite expensive and as we were a party of 4 it was cheaper to make our own way in a taxi. This cruise was from Southampton to the Canaries. The activities on board were plentiful and awe did join in a number of different activities - all well organised. If there is any criticism it is that towards the end staff become over attentive and you do begin to feel that they are begging for tips
I would recommend a cruise holiday to anyone but beware they do spoil you for any other holiday - this is the way to relax, be thoroughly spoiled and come back feeling like you have had a holiday BUT yearning for the next cruise
