A Legend to forget.

This was our first cruise with Royal Caribbean but we have cruised with their sister company Celebrity Cruises on 10 previous cruises so we thought that although it would not be up to the excellent standards of Celebrity it would be of a reasonably high standard. Oh how disappointed we were with Legend of the Seas.

Overall the public areas and in particular the cabin were shabby and in need of updating and refurbishing.

We had booked a "late deal" offer on a guaranteed basis for a Q grade inside cabin. Before we sailed we were pleased to see that our cabin was allocated as M grade. We thought that this was because with our membership of Celebrity's Captain's Club we had automatically been registered with the RCI Crown & Anchor as Diamon Members.

When we went to our assigned cabin on Deck 6 we were dismayed to find that it was very small and really not suitable for double bedded occupation as the bed was pushed right up to the wall and it meant that I would have had to literally climb over my wife to get out of bed. Not easy for a 69 year old with back and hip problems!

We went immediately to the Guest Relations Desk to complain and were told that the ship was full and no other cabin was available. This was untrue and after escalating our issue to a more senior Officer we were found an alternative cabin on Deck 3 which was the type and size of cabin we had expected.

Our overall cruise experience was reasonable and we felt that the entertainment was very good.

The Main Dining Room had limited selections for the Dinner menu and many items were repeated every day. Having tried the Romeo and Juliet for the first 3 nights we then spent the rest of the cruise in the Windjammer Buffet which was very good. The quality and choice of food was very poor compared to Celebrity.

Our other main gripe was that in 3 ports Livorno.Dubrovnik and Venice we had to pay for a shuttle service to get us into the places we were visiting. Most passengers felt that this was expensive and unreasonable.

In summary this was our 40th cruise since starting cruising in 1990 and it would rate in the bottom 10%.
