We took this cruise as a joint special birthday/anniversary cruise, as we had been on a caribbean cruise before but not to Bermuda, which was somewhere we both wanted to go. We had paid quite a lot more to have a balcony cabin to make it special, as we were sailing from New Jersey. On arrival the boarding process was pretty good although the terminal could do with a face lift. When we eventually got to our cabin it was very clean as expected but the balcony was covered in peeling paint, which continued to peel throughout the cruise, to the point where it was unpleasant to sit out and enjoy it as we got covered in greasy paint, so we ended up not being able to use the balcony at all.
When we were required to do the muster drill we donned the life jackets and started to make our way to our escape route only to be told we weren't allowed to go that way. Apparently our escape route was down staff only stairs and we were only allowed to use it in an emergency. This caused some concern as we thought muster drills were done to show you the way to go in an emergency, and I feel the cruise lines shouldn't be allowed to do this and I'm not sure they are.
The food in the restaurant was good although not as good as I've had but the service was excellent.
Unfortunately a day and a half into the cruise someone was taken ill and had to be airlifted from the ship which meant they couldn't make Bermuda. There was some dispute amongst passengers that maybe they could have made Bermuda as they proceeded to the next port of call extremely slowly, and this was questioned at various times. Having read reports about the ships previous sailings on here after my cruise there have been a few times it hasn't made it's destinations.
I would not recommend the trips by the cruise line as two of the three we went on were disappointing, and there are numerous companies at the port which do cheaper and better trips.
I did write regarding the problems we had and was offered £75 per person to spend on another cruise with them, but considering we couldn't use the balcony, I felt insulted with the offer and returned it to them. All in all I wouldn't recommend the cruise as we came back extremely disappointed and felt we hadn't got what we paid for.
