Independence of the Seas Heads for Southampton

Royal Caribbean International’s Independence of the Seas will be delivered in Southampton next week. It will be the biggest ship to be home-ported in Europe and will be named on 30th April before its maiden cruise on 2nd May.

The four lucky godmother finalists that were nominated by friends and family joined execs at the Aker Yards shipyard in Turku, Finland at a ceremony to welcome the new ship into service. The winner of the godmother competition will be announced today – selected by a panel of judges. She will then take a major part in the inaugural celebrations and naming ceremony in Southampton

“We are delighted to welcome Independence of the Seas to our fleet and to introduce her to vacationers throughout the United Kingdom and Europe,” said Adam Goldstein, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International. “Positioning one of our largest and newest ships in Southampton reaffirms Royal Caribbean’s strong commitment to the region and will provide the opportunity for more European guests to experience the distinctive and award-winning vacation our brand has become recognised for throughout the world.”
