Q: This is a question to any diamond crown and anchor members (RCI) does anyone ever get an upgrade to a better cabin and if yes who do you book with originally. I have never been offered an upgrade but keep hearing through the grapevine of members who have. Are they all just rumours

We have travelled with RBCI several times, now gold members, took our friends who usually use P & O. We booked a promenade room on the IOS Sou to Cork. Both us and our friends were offered an upgrage to an outside cabin with a balcony on same deck. Problem was it was at the back of the ship. You cannot choose your cabins and they do not like it when you refuse the upgrade. It was worth the upgrade though. We usually book the cabin that we particularly want. Usually Junior suite deck 9.

Had an upgrade once and once only. We were given a Junior Suite instead of our original booking in a superior balcony stateroom. This was on Independence for a short weekend cruise to Ireland from Soton. We are Diamond members, and we always book through our local branch of Thomsons TA. Good Luck!

Not a rumour..... I'm a lowly Platinum member .. infact at the time we were still gold!!... but we had a visit from the upgrade fairy. August 2008 on Brilliance booked through an internet travel agency way back in April 2007 - we had booked a specific cabin D1 for 3 of us and two weeks before sailing we were upgraded to a Junior Suite. How lucky were we? Keeping my fingers crossed for all of you..

The last cruise I was on had over 400 Diamond members on and one couple I knew got an upgrade to a junior suite so it does happen but if you look at the odds they were probably only a 0.5% chance. You are far more likely to be invited to dine with the Captain or one of the other officers. I will say that Americans do get visits from the "Upgrade Fairy" of whom A of N speaks but what their C & A status is I don't know. I assume that is because most changes are made by head office in the USA. I am still waiting for the Fairy..... Neil.

Does anyone win the Lottery! Yes of course but what are the odds? Some agents offer upgrades if you book with them, but they are rarely what they seem. You get the same cabin but higher grading which just means you move to different part of the ship & may not be so well positioned as your origional. You're only other hope is a 'Guarenteed Grade' where you often get better than you paid for but have no control of it's position.

No, never have, but have heard and seen the Upgrade Fairy strike many people. Usually because their room is needed to accomodate adjoining families etc.
