You didn't really think that you could take something with you that would allow you to get something for nothing on a cruise ship did you? They don't spend all that money on installing internet facilities onboard ship so that you can use them for free! They are a way of earning more revenue. Happy cruising.

As it says under the FAQs on RCIs website:
Yes, depending on the ship there are two options for staying connected while onboard.
Wireless Internet Access (Wi-Fi)
There will be six designated *"Hot Spots" which vary from ship to ship.
To use our WI-FI access, you'll need:
A laptop
Windows operating system
802.11b Wireless networking capability
The cost for Wi-Fi access through your own laptop is:
Base rate is $.55 per minute or choose from one of our prepaid packages:
$28.00 for 60 minutes
$38.00 for 90 minutes
$55.00 for 150 minutes
All prices are subject to change without notice.
The Internet Cafe/Workstation
These stations provide access to e-mail and the Internet, plus direct connections to favorite websites for stock, sports and entertainment updates. You can also send virtual postcards while at sea, and in ports-of-call worldwide. If you don't have an e-mail account, you can also establish one onboard.
The cost is $.55 per minute or you can choose a prepaid package:
$28.00 for 60 minutes
$38.00 for 90 minutes
$55.00 for 150 minutes
Available onboard all ships.

Yes there are Internet facilities on board which are charged at a rate of 25pence per minute. There is also a wireless system operating thereby allowing a laptop with wireless facilities to be used. Unfortunately I cannot recall if this was free or a charge was made. I suggest you contact Royal Caribbean direct & request this information. You will need to identify the ship you will be travelling on as I am led to beleive that last year all internet access on the Freedom of the Seas was completely free. There is a possibility that this is still the case. However, it is more likely that charges have been introduced on all Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships. Enjoy your holiday be aware that everything that is offered as free will have a sting in its tail. Don't buy any art unless you want it as a personal item, as the gallery valuation is for insurance purposes & do not reflect anything like its market value, e.g. a $95 (£50)piece of art can be purchased on ebay for about $10 (£5). BEWARE
