Q:
We are going on a 4 night cruise to the Bahamas in January - and it's our first time. Only one question. I keep reading conflicting advice about the dress/attire for the formal evening. Should I wear a cocktail dress and my husband a tux, or are we going to look overdone? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just returned from a cruise round the Bahamas and really enjoyed the formal night. As first time cruisers I had intended renting a Tux for my husband but took a pair of smart black trousers, shirt and tie just in case. No need to hire a Tux at all - very much down to the individual and there was a variety of formal dress and smart. Everyone had a fabulous night. I wore a cocktail length dress and was very comfortable.
Fabulous trip. No need to take the excursions in Nassau as everywhere is within walking distance. You can either get a taxi or water taxi to Paradise Island for a few dollars each. You are within minutes of The Queen's staircase and Fort Fincastle. The surrey ride is 10 dollars each and is a short ride but does give you a bit of orientation.
Wonderful holiday and I agree, should go for a longer cruise next time

Don't worry, A nice stylish--and comfortable dress ---- and gent in a business suit will be perfectly OK. P.S. You should have gone for a longer trip! ENJOY!

Americans tend to dress far smarter than us British I am afraid to say. We have never taken a tuxedo - DH wears a buisness suit and I always wear a floaty dress [long]
